I'm getting ready to make my rally debut in February with my youngest Britt. I've only shown in rally once before with my oldest who had already competed in obedience first. This is new for me to train from scratch just for rally.
Anyone have any tips? He's doing great in training at home, but anywhere else he pays no attention to me at all.

proof, proof, proof! Go to the park to practice at first, there are good distractions but usually not a lot of other dogs which helps the transition. Then, Petco/Petsmart are good places to practice. Don't depend on a lot of obedience behavior, focus mainly on getting good solid attention and rewarding enthusiastically for it. If he's great at home he knows the behaviors so all that's left is proofing! Good luck I finished Dante's RN in three straight trials with scores of 86, 100, and 92, thanks to good solid at-home training plus good proofs. Britts are, in my opinion, one of the most underrated obedience breeds...

I agree with you! Brittanys can do obedience. You have to learn their quirks and work with them. They are definitely not Goldens (thankfully). I find you have to keep changing the routine and keeping it fresh. If they get bored we all know what they do. Brittanys do find very creative ways to do obedience exercises. I have a few stories.

I trained Tanner a little with the clicker as a pup & then things got side-tracked. Now that he's grown up some (mentally) I've been working with him every day. Just when I think we aren't getting anywhere I suddenly realize he's doing something on the first command/signal every time that a month ago he didn't know what it was. I'm slowly adding the proofing in other places. At home we have lots of distractions with the cats wandering around while I'm trying to train It took him a couple tries to realize that outside he can pay attention to me & ignore the neighborhood cats. I think PetsMart might have been too much stimulus for him as it was a very busy day. I can completely relate to the Brittany obedience stories LOL I do think they are a well-kept secret when it comes to obedience.

Less than a month until our debut. Any last minute tips?

A good last minute tip: make sure to keep a loose lead, judges will dock you heavily for not having enough slack.
