With sadness, Kaye and I report the passing of Lyndsey’s Lone Star Rose JH (FC AFC Shasta’s Spike from Evil Roy x Tessa Marie Strong) at 15 years. She was one of the few Brittany dams in ABC history to produce 3 dual champions where two of these are liver and white. Rosey was a snappy orange and white gundog with a strong drive to locate her birds and point them with style when she found them.
As a puppy, when commanded to find a particular toy (hedgehog, whale, rope, etc.) in a basket, she would hustle to the basket of 5-6 toys and pick out the toy being named. She started her field experiences with Bunny Brown and was an apt pupil, easily broken at an early age of 11 mo. Her training stuck her entire life. Bunny once said, except for her daddy Spike, Rosey was the easiest Brittany she had trained. Rosey’s field trialing was cut short when Bunny retired from the field trial circuit. Rose qualified for the 2000 NGDC.
Rosey whelped many nice pups for the field and home. Her daddy, Spike, was a full brother to 2X US Open Champion DC AFC A Bunch of Butch, and Spike was the sire of Rose’s half-brother 2X US Open Champion 4XAmFC FC AFC Tejas Iron Mike. Rosey had a passel of HOFs in her background.
Rosey's dual champion offspring are DC KK Lone Star Ranger JH (Ranger)sired by DC AFC The Whiz Kid; DC AFC TC’s Match Boks Racer (Rob), and DC KK Majorette’s Coquina CGC JH (Coke). Coke and Rob both liver and white were sired by DC AFC Blueridge Major Adventure (Major) in separate litters. Coke was the DC bitch class winner at the 2008 Nationals and Rob was the best of dual classes that year. Rosey was a superb mother with excellent maternal instincts. Rosey’s pups and grandpups are found all over the US and even in South Africa.
Her final years were spent hunting lizards and stalking squirrels in her backyard. She will be greatly missed. We had fine times together.
Friends, David and Terry Downing, were kind enough to board Rosey and our other dogs during our summer vacations over the years. Rosey loved visiting their place in the central Texas open country. Her final resting place is beside DC AFC Blueridge Major Adventure on their ranch. Right now, Rosey and Major are probably chasing birds together and rolling in dead skunks.
