I had a Brittany years ago that suffered from false pregnancies. I remember I took her to the vet to get some kind of shot to clear it up. At one point the vet told me I may have to breed her to "clear things up" but fortunately she only went through it the one time.

are there a lot of reasons for a bloody discharge other than pyometra. it has been more than 4 weeks since her season and has never been bred. the vet did a urinalysis to make sure it was coming from the uterus and not kidneys and then prescribed a couple of antibiotics. she don't seem to be bothered too much by it but isn't 100%. eats and drinks OK I will have to monitor her temp to see if the infection gets worse.

hopefully the antibiotics knock it out
Does the vet say that is could be anything else ?....
wish I was home I would ask my vet...I am always paranoid when it comes to the uterus on the dogs
As long as she is acting normal and is eating and drinking Ok and getting better...but seriously if there is any signs that set off a flag that she isn't acting right ....contact the vet immediatly let her know what is going on for her to determine if you should bring her in or what else or other signs to look for and watch for....
how old is your girl?

Our bitch had false pregnancies with her first two heats. Her mother also had false pregnancies with her heat cycles. This time I had a friend who owns 5 intact bitches suggest that we work/condition her harder and feed her less than we normally would after she went out of heat. We did this and although she showed some signs of a false pregnancy- we didn't get the nesting/hiding/crawling under things and general funky attitude we did the other two times and she came out of it much quicker than the last time. We did have her checked for a pyo this time because her water consumption increased but she had no infection. Kristi
