Sorry but I wasnt sure where best to ask this.
For those who train and compete in Field Trials and Conformation events what did you start with? Did you focus on one type of event and then progress to the other? Was it hand in hand the whole way through?
Just curious on how everyone got their start..

I usually compete in both events simultaneously just depending on the time of year. Here in Texas it is too hot to run in the field from May to August so I will show my dogs in the summer and then when the fall trial season rolls around we hang up our leads till the following year. I may make a show or two on an off weekend but for the most part we are strictly field when we are at it. I also start showing my dogs as juveniles and they are usually finished before they make it out of puppy and derby stakes in the field. This means that they can stay with the field trainer longer and focus on getting broke and staying that way. But don't let a title keep you from continuing on in competition. I will special one of my dual dogs from time to time if the conditions are right, i.e. in coat, not sun faded, etc. Hope this answers some of your questions!
