How long do you dock your puppies tails? How do you determine the length the adult tail will be?

where the tail naturally tapers there is almost a natural line where the til goes froma thicker look to a thinner look that is where I have my pups docked to

I also like to look at the "Natural break". Another is to dock using a dime for measurement under the tail placed against the edge of anus. best if this is used on days 2-3.
But with my French dogs a tailess look is prefered to accentuate the shortness of body. So in the 75% born with tails they are docked as short as possible keeping in line with the "Tailess" or a natural tail not longer than 10cm. Many who have breeds that should appear "Tailess" will use the band method on the day of birth and the taills are off by the 3rd day. No "pain" no whiney pups, no bleeding or excessive licking by mom.
