We had a really good time at the walking trials at Parks AZ last weekend.
This year the Greater Phoenix Brittany Club partnered with the Desert German Shorthaired Pointer Club, for a 4 day walking trial. It was a huge sucess with more entries than we could handle and people coming from all over the southwest.
This year the course was changed, to running the treeline around a huge meadow.
On friday we had Deni in Open Limited Gundog. We were braced with Cindy Pescod and her Vizsla Mason. Deni had 3 finds and a honor for a sparkling performance. Unfortunantly she was edged out for the win by Tom and Cindy Pescod's Gus, who has been hot as a pistol lately.
On Saturday we had Deni in Amatuer Limited Gundog. She ran in the last brace of the day. I knew that Gus had gotten around earlier, and figured that Deni would have to step it up to have a shot at it.
She didn't disappoint.
Her brace mate was a dog named Flyby. The name fits, as she is a huge running fast English Setter.
Deni had 3 finds, with the 3rd find being a covey before the water barrel at the 2/3s point of the course. After each find we managed to catch up with Flyby who was birdless. I thought my lungs were going to burst at the 7400 ft elevation, but was determined to get to the front .
At the water we both dunked our dogs, and turned them loose for the home stretch. Deni was fired up and gave the Setter a run for her money as the dogs set a blistering pace back towards camp.
As the dogs about 1/4 mile ahead of us ran out of course over 5 minutes before time, the judges gave us the option of turning our dogs around and working the trees back towards us, or shooting out into the middle of the meadow for the remaining time.
Since Flyby needed a bird, her handler elected to run in the trees. Since Deni was good on birds and I was sure that she had a lot left, I sent her out into the meadow. Deni's nickname is Deni the Diesel as the more she runs the stronger she gets. She looked like a antelope out there as she covered the ground with no hint of fatigue.
Time was called with Flyby still birdless.
As we walked back thru camp I saw Cindy Pescod and asked her how Gus had done. She said he had a huge run with 5 finds, but was loose on his birds. She asked how we did and I told her better than friday. She said she felt we probably won it.
She was right. Deni finished her Amatuer Field Championship

The other good news was that it was confirmed this weekend that Talon is pregnant. The pups should be arriving in a little over a month.
